Why I Think You Should Stop Buying Black Swimwear

For years, I believed exactly the same thing as so many women.

If in doubt... buy black.

Black was supposed to be slimming.

Safe.

Easy.

The colour that made you feel just a little less visible.

It felt like the sensible option.

The problem?

It wasn't actually helping me feel confident.

Swimwear is different

There are very few items of clothing that make us feel quite as exposed as swimwear.

It's no wonder shopping for it feels overwhelming.

We're standing under unforgiving changing room lights trying to make a decision about something we'll wear on holiday, at the beach or around the pool, often in front of people we don't know.

It's hardly surprising so many of us panic-buy black.

Colour analysis changed how I shop

One of the biggest surprises after discovering my own season wasn't just how much better clothes looked...

It was how much more enjoyable shopping became.

Instead of asking:

"Does this hide me?"

I started asking:

"Does this bring me to life?"

Those are very different questions.

When you wear colours that naturally harmonise with your skin tone, your complexion appears healthier, your eyes brighter and your features more defined.

That's true whether you're wearing a winter coat or a swimsuit.

You don't need a tan

One thing I hear all the time is:

"I'll look better once I've got a tan."

Maybe.

But your seasonal colours don't rely on a tan.

In fact, they work beautifully with your natural skin tone.

Even if you're the person who burns before they bronze (I completely relate!), your best colours will still help you look fresher and healthier than colours that fight against your natural colouring.

So I did the searching for you

I know how frustrating swimwear shopping can be.

That's why I've spent hours searching through some of my favourite high street brands to find beautiful options for every season.

This edit includes:

  • 15 swimsuits for Spring

  • 15 swimsuits for Summer

  • 15 swimsuits for Autumn

  • 15 swimsuits for Winter

Whether you're heading off on holiday or simply replacing an old favourite, my hope is that this gives you a little more confidence to step away from black and towards colours that really celebrate you.

Because holidays are for making memories.

Not hiding yourself.
