What Happens Next?

The best part of my job as a colour consultant is seeing a client leave their consultation full of excitement, ready to start embracing their best colours. That moment when they see themselves properly for the first time in ages is truly energising. Some clients haven’t thought about their colours, hair, or makeup for so long that they’ve forgotten just how gorgeous they actually are.

I know many of you are now booked in for future consultations, so I wanted to share a few tips and insights about what to expect once your analysis is complete.

1. You’re going to want to talk about it a lot.

We’ve all met someone who’s had their colours done and brings it up at every opportunity. Once you’ve had yours, you’ll understand why. It’s like someone has switched a light back on inside you, and you’ll feel excited to keep that light glowing. You’ll start planning your next shopping trip, maybe even browsing online and noticing pieces you’d previously ignored. Many clients tell me that the night after their consultation, they can’t sleep because they’re reflecting on old outfits and colours, wondering which ones really worked. You’ll start imagining how you might feel one month or even one year from now, armed with this new insight into yourself.

2. You’ll start looking at your wardrobe with fresh eyes.
You’ll begin to question whether you wear things because they make you feel good or because they help you blend in. Did you know that your best colours rarely look as brave as you expect? That’s because they’re in harmony with you. They don’t feel too much; they feel right. Suddenly, your idea of what feels “safe” shifts. The colours that once felt bold become your new neutrals, and the old invisibility cloak pieces might start to lose their appeal.

3. Take a pause before diving into a shopping spree.
I always recommend starting small and practical. Focus on your most casual outfits, the ones you wear every day but might not feel particularly inspired by. Find great leggings in one of your best shades, or some T-shirts and hoodies that make you feel good. We can all look amazing in a special outfit for a wedding or event, but so much of our style confidence is built in the clothes we wear to live our real lives.

4. Use your colour analysis as a guidebook, not a rulebook.
Your palette is there to guide you toward harmony, not to limit your creativity. My goal is for you to feel that the best version of you is still unfolding and that you are in charge of your own image. If that means wearing a colour you love that isn’t technically in your season, that’s completely fine. This is about empowerment, not perfection. Remember, my business is called How To Not Hate Your Clothes, not How To Follow Colour Analysis Perfectly!
